Abstract
The objectives of this research were to survey the English written and oral business
communication problems of the Savannakhet University’s staff and lecturers, and to
compare the English proficiency levels of staff and lecturers within the Savannakhet
University classified by their qualifications of staff and lecturers on English written
(business writing e-mail and business writing report) and oral business communication
(business negotiation language and business meeting language).
It was quantitative research; the questionnaire was used as research instrument. The
sample group was 55 staff and lecturers within Savannakhet University. The data was
collected and analyzed with the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) program,
to compare the English proficiency levels of staff and lecturers within the SKU by using
reference statistics for analysis of variance or One Way ANOVA.
The research results found that:
1) The English negotiation language of the staff and lectures within Savannakhet
University with the high mean of 3.42 (great level), however, the English writing e-mail, the
English writing report and the English meeting language of their staff and lecturers with the
moderate mean ranging from 3.25 to 3.32 (moderate mean), that meant all 55 staff and
lecturers had no problems with the English written and oral business communication.
2) The PhD, Master, and Postgraduate hypothesis differences were statistically
significant at 0.05 when comparing each pair (Post Hoc), found that the doctoral degree
differs from the master's degree, meaning that the English negotiation language proficiency
of the doctoral degree differs from the master's degree, the degree of negotiation
communication of the doctoral degree is higher than the master's degree in statistics.
