Study on the impact of the China Laos Railway on the development of tourism in the provinces along the line of Laos

Abstract

Since the completion of the China Laos Railway, it has had a huge impact on the economy, society and enterprises in Laos, especially on the development of the tertiary industry in Laos. It has had a significant impact on the economic structure of Laos. According to the report of the Vientiane News in 2022, the total GDP of Laos' tourism industry will reach 10 billion dollars, accounting for 52.63% of the total GDP of the country, and the growth trend will become increasingly obvious, Or Laos may enter a modern industrial system country through the development of the tertiary industry chain. In order to further explore the impact of the construction of the China Laos Railway on the current tourism development in Laos, this paper will establish a model to analyze the specific impact of the China Laos Railway on the tourism development of cities along Laos, and achieve practical significance of improving the tourism development of Laos, the coordinated development of the tertiary industry, and the domestic economic radiation development through research.

This paper conducts a detailed study from the perspective of the impact of the China Laos Railway on the development of tourism in the provinces along the line of Laos. Firstly, the current development status of the tourism industry in Laos was analyzed. Through the analysis of the current situation, existing problems, and causes of the problems, it was found that the tourism industry in Laos is currently in a dilemma of imbalanced development; Secondly, this paper established a PSM-DID model to analyze the net impact, significance and direction of the opening of the China Laos railway on the tourism development of provinces along the line, and carried out a robustness analysis. It analyzed the heterogeneous impact and influencing factors of the emergence of provinces and provincial capitals along the railway and the opening of high-speed railway in famous tourist cities and other cities on the tourism development, and found that the China Laos railway has a positive impact on the tourism development of provinces along the line, It has promoted the growth of total tourism revenue and total tourist arrivals of provinces along the line, which shows that the China Laos Railway plays a decisive role in the development of Laos' tourism. Finally, combined with the existing problems in the development of Laos' tourism and the importance of China Laos railway construction, this paper puts forward suggestions for the follow-up development of Laos' tourism, hoping to promote the development and construction of Laos' tourism from four aspects: macro, micro, infrastructure construction, and resource element development.
