ການວິໄຈຄວາມຕອ້ງການເພື່ອພັດທະນາຫລັກສູດພາກວິຊາພາສາອັງກິດ, ຄະນະອັກສອນສາດ, ມະຫາວິທະຍາໄລແຫ່ງຊາດລາວ

Abstract

ຈຸດປະສົງຂອງການຄົ້ນຄ້ວາຄັ້ງນີ້ແມ່ນເພື່ອສຶກສາຄວາມຕ້ອງການເພື່ອພັດທະນາຫລັກສູດທີ່ມີຢູ່ແລ້ວຂອງພາກວິຊາພາສາອັງກິດ, ຄະນະອັກສອນສາດມະຫາວິທະຍາໄລແຫ່ງຊາດ.  ການຄົ້ນຄ້ວານີ້ມີສອງຈຸດປະສົງດັ່ງນີ້: ຈຸດປະສົງທີ 1 ເພື່ອຊອກຂໍ້ມູນທີ່ຈໍາເປັນສໍາລັບການພັດທະນາຫລັກສູດ ແລະ ປື້ມຕໍາລາ, ແລະພັດທະນາການບໍລິຫານ, ວິເຄາະຄວາມຕ້ອງການຂອງຜູ້ຈ້າງງານ, ຄະນະອາຈານ, ອາດີດນັກສຶກສາທີ່ຈົບໄປແລ້ວ; ແລະເພື່ອເຫັນໄດ້ເຖິງປະສິດທິພາບຂອງຫລັກສູດ ແລະ ປື້ມຕໍາລາຂອງພາກວິຊາສົມທຽບກັບຜົນຂອງຄວາມຕ້ອງການ. ຈຸດປະສົງທີ 2, ບັນດາຜູ້ຄົ້ນຄວ້າມີຈຸດປະສົງກ່ຽວກັບການປ່ຽນແປງສໍາລັບການພັດທະນາຄຸນນະພາບຂອງການຮຽນ-ການສອນພາສາອັງກິດຂອງພາກວິຊາພາສາອັງກິດດ້ວຍການພັດທະນາຫລັກສູດ.

ເຄື່ອງມືການຄົ້ນຄ້ວາແມ່ນໃຊ້ແບບສອບຖາມ ແລະການສໍາພາດໃນສົກຮຽນ 2008-2009, ເຊິ່ງໄດ້ຖາມນັກສຶກສາທີ່ກໍາລັງຮຽນຢູ່ໃນພາກວິຊາ ແລະນັກສຶກສາທີ່ຮຽນຈົບໄປແລ້ວ. ນອກຈາກນັ້ນການຄົ້ນຄ້ວາຄັ້ງນີ້ຍັງໄດ້ໃຊ້ການໂຄສະນາສະໝັກວຽກໃນໜັງສືພິມວຽງຈັນໃໝ່ ແລະ ວຽງຈັນທາມສ໌ ເພື່ອມາເປັນຂໍ໊ມູນໃນການຄົ້ນຄ້ວາ. ກຸ່ມຕົວຢ່າງທັງໝົດ 565 ຄົນ, 343 ຄົນເປັນນັກສຶກສາທີ່ກໍາລັງຮຽນຢູ່ໃນພາກວິຊາ, 146 ຄົນແມ່ນນັກສຶກສາທິ່ຮຽນຈົບ, 40 ຄົນແມ່ນເຮັດວຽກແລ້ວ, ແລະ 36 ຄົນ ແມ່ນອາຈານສອນໃນພາກວິຊາພາສາອັງກິດ.

ຜົນຂອງການຄົ້ນຄ້ວາມີດັ່ງນີ້: ນັກສຶກສາສ່ວນຫລາຍແມ່ນມາຈາກເມືອງໃຫ່ຍໂດຍສະເພາະແມ່ນມາຈາກນະຄອນຫລວງວຽງຈັນ, ເຂົາເຈົ້າສ່ວນຫລາຍແມ່ນຢາກເຮັດວຽກຢູ່ໃນໂຕເມືອງ; 4 ທັກສະທີ່ເປັນພື້ນຖານຂອງພາສາອັງກິດ, ການສື່ສານ, ການນໍາສະເໜີ, ການແປເອກະສານ ແລະ ການແປປາກເປົ່າແມ່ນເປັນທີ່ຈໍາເປັນທີ່ສຸດສໍາລັບພະນັກງານທີ່ເຮັດວຽກຕົວຈິງ; ນອກຈາກນັ້ນການນໍາໃຊ້ຄໍາສັບທີ່ຫລາກຫລາຍໃນການແປ ແລະ ພາສາອັງກິດສະເພາະດ້ານກໍເປັນທີ່ສໍາຄັນສໍາລັບນັກສຶກສາທີ່ກໍາລັງຮຽນຢູ່ ແລະ ອາດີດນັກສຶກສາທີ່ຈົບໄປແລ້ວ; ທັກສະການສື່ສານກໍຍັງບໍ່ທັນພຽງພໍສໍາລັບພານັກງານທີ່ເປັນອາດີດນັກສຶກສາທີ່ຈົບໄປແລ້ວ; ການສິດສອນພາສາອັງກິດໃນພາກວິຊາຍັງມີຄວາມຕ້ອງການຂອງສັງຄົມ.

This study aims to investigate the ‘Needs Analysis’ in order to improve the existing curriculum of the Department of English, Faculty of Letters, National University of Laos. There are two main purposes. Firstly, to provide baseline information necessary for curriculum and material development and management improvement by clarifying the actual needs of employers, teaching staff, former graduates, and current students and to see the effectiveness of the actual curriculum and materials of the department compared with the results of the needs analysis. Secondly, the research also aims at proposing new changes for the improvement of the quality of English language education the Department of English by means of curriculum improvement.

A research questionnaire and interview were conducted in academic year 2008-2009. The total samples were 565 people, which consisted of 343 current students, 146 former graduates, 40 employers of the Graduates, and 36 teaching staff of the Department of English.

The results of this study showed: The majority of students in the department of English come from big cities, especially, Vientiane Capital and most of them are willing to work and live in those places; Four basic skills, communicative, presentation, academic writing skills (writing office documents), and translation and interpretation knowledge are most needed by most employers; Besides that vocabulary size, translation and interpretation and English for Specific Purposes knowledge are considered to be the most important for the current and future jobs for those former and current students; The Department of English has somehow provided English language instruction relevant to socio-economic development.
